FAQ
What kind of art and writing do you accept?
We accept Star Trek NSFW/NC-17/Mature/Explicit fanart and fanfiction.
Due to the zine format, submitted fanfiction must be:
- A one-shot (a complete story, or a vignette)
- Under 1,500 words
Drabbles and ficlets are highly welcome!
Do you accept collaborative works?
Yes!
When submitting collaborative work, please credit all authors on the submission form.
Do you edit my art or writing?
Nope!
We include your creation exactly as it was submitted. We may include decorative elements around or in between art and writing submitted, but we will not edit, write, or draw over your art or fics. We want to showcase your work just as it is!
Is there a specific style, theme, or skill level that you require?
Nope!
We are interested in all styles of art and writing. While art and fics related to the current zine theme (Shore Leave) are definitely welcome, your work does not need to be themed.
Is there anything that you don't accept?
The zine was founded on the belief that overly-restrictive content policies around NSFW/NC-17 creative works are unnecessary and harmful. We strongly believe in AO3's content policy and freedom of artistic expression in fiction.
We welcome almost anything, but we do have two major restrictions on the type of content we accept:
- We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted works.
- This zine is created by humans for humans. AI robs people of the messy joy of thinking and feeling their own art into existence. We lose something precious when we outsource our creativity to AI, and we don't accept that here.
- We do not accept underage-themed content of any kind.
- Everyone and everything depicted in your submission needs to be an adult. (Yes, even the tentacle monster that the away team was captured by should be in adulthood for its species.)
- You don't have to go out of your way to state the age of anyone, but there shouldn't be anything included in your submission that would cause a reader to question whether or not the characters are adults.
- We also do not accept art or fics depicting the following:
- Ageplay
- Sexualization of someone or something appearing child-like
Outside of these restrictions, we whole-heartedly invite you to share anything that you please. (Yes, we really mean it!)
What's your approach to tags and content warnings?
We encourage everyone to be the curator of their own online experiences and only engage with content that's safe and comfortable for them.
To assist with this, we will include tags/warnings and a labeled table of contents for all submitted works that provide tags/warnings.
Creators can choose whether or not to include tags or content warnings in the zine. Art and fics without tags/warnings will be placed together in the table of contents under a section titled "Creator Chose Not to Tag".
We advise readers to proceed at their own comfort and discretion.
Submissions Reminders:
- ALL submisssions MUST include tags/warnings for our team, even if creators are choosing to not include tags/warnings in the zine itself. This allows us to coordinate the creation of the zine while respecting our individual boundaries.
- ANY attempt to subvert this requirement (by not including tags/warnings for the team or failing to mention major story/art themes in the tags/warnings for the team provided) will result in the submission being immediately discarded. Respect the boundaries of our team.
- If you are unsure if you should include a tag for our team's reviewing purposes, err on the side of caution and include it to avoid potentially having your submission discarded.
Is there anything else I should know?
Mainly, we'd like to remind you that this is our first time ever creating something like this. We think it's pretty cool, and we hope you do as well! But, given that this is new, most likely our approach and submission requirements will evolve over time.
